Over View
This project involved designing an interactive onboarding training for Canadian Tire employees, transforming the Code of Conduct PDF into an engaging, scenario-based e-learning experience using Articulate Storyline. Learners navigate different workplace environments where department representatives explain key regulations through interactive segments and quizzes. The training includes reflection points, knowledge checks, and a completion certificate, with additional supporting materials for both self-paced and instructor-led learning. This project enhanced engagement and improved knowledge retention for new employees.
Understanding the Content and Needs
The project began with an in-depth review of the official Canadian Tire Code of Conduct PDF, which outlined company regulations and safety policies in a text-heavy format. While the document provided essential guidelines, it lacked interactivity and engagement, making it less effective for onboarding employees. The challenge was to transform this content into an engaging, scenario-based training that would ensure better comprehension and retention.
Instructional Design Approach: Scenario-Based Learning
I structured the training with a focus on scenario-based learning. Instead of presenting rules in a static format, I designed the course as an interactive experience where learners would be virtually guided through different company locations, such as the warehouse, IT center, and retail floor, with a representative from each department explaining relevant safety regulations. This approach made the learning process more immersive and relatable.
Course Flow
To ensure a seamless learning experience, I developed a detailed storyboard mapping out the training structure, interactions, character dialogues, and quiz placements. The learning experience was designed as follows:
Story-boarding and Development in Articulate Storyline
To ensure a seamless learning experience, I developed a detailed storyboard mapping out the training structure, interactions, character dialogues, and quiz placements. Features included:

• Interactive Clickable Elements for exploration.
• Character Animations and Voiceovers to enhance engagement.
• Knowledge Checks with varied question formats.
Final Impact
By transforming static policy documents into an engaging, interactive training, this project successfully enhanced the onboarding experience for Canadian Tire employees. The scenario-based approach ensured that employees could not only understand but also apply company regulations effectively in their specific work environments.
